SPD South Command at GCTENA February Meeting

Speakers included SPD official and Neighborhood Watch trainer Barbara Falcon.  Barbara provided tips for using the social media site Nextdoor and talked about how Neighborhood Watch has changed communities for the better including her own.  See the most recent issues of the SPD Safety Newsletter here:
Following Barbara's presentation, a contingent of officers gave the audience encouraging statistics on the crime rate; for various categories it has dropped dramatically in our area.
Officers warned that the often unintelligible helicopter loud speakers are usually telling everyone to stay indoors because the K-9 corps is probably pursuing a suspect.

If you're using a cell phone within the City of Sacramento for emergencies/ crimes-in-progress, dial 732-0100.  Otherwise your call for help goes to the California Highway Patrol first.  Right now 911 is direct to the SPD for landlines only.  For non-emergency calls to the Sacramento Police, dial 264-5471.
Officers reminded everyone that although Nextdoor is great for neighborhood networking, it's private and not monitored by the SPD.  Concerns voiced on Nextdoor will not be seen by the Police Department.
GCTENA plans to invite South Command officers to future meetings to answer your neighborhood safety questions.
